PetrolBuddy is owned and operated by WebDigital (ABN: 17 453 778 242). We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring that your personal information is handled in a safe and responsible manner in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs), and the Notifiable Data Breaches (NDB) scheme.
This Privacy Policy applies to our website (petrolbuddy.net.au) and our mobile applications available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. By using PetrolBuddy to find the best petrol prices at your local servo, you agree to the terms outlined in this policy.
1. Information We Collect
We collect information that helps us provide a better experience when you are hunting for the cheapest c/L across more than 8,560 servos Australia-wide. The types of information we collect include:
- Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your email address and username.
- User-Generated Content: We collect petrol price reports and updates you submit to ensure our community has the most accurate data for every servo.
- App Usage Analytics: We collect data on how you interact with our app, such as the features you use and the frequency of your visits.
- Device Information: We may collect information about your mobile device, including model, operating system, and unique device identifiers.
Important Note on Location Data: While our app uses your location to show you the nearest servo and the best petrol prices in your immediate area, this data is processed client-side only. We do not store your precise location data on our servers.
2. How We Use Your Information
WebDigital uses your information to:
- Provide and maintain the PetrolBuddy platform.
- Allow you to report and track petrol prices in c/L.
- Personalise your experience (e.g., remembering your favourite servos).
- Monitor and analyse usage trends to improve our services.
- Communicate with you regarding account updates or support enquiries.
- Prevent fraudulent activity or misuse of our platform.
We do NOT sell your personal data to third parties.
3. Cookies and Tracking Technologies
We use cookies and similar tracking technologies to track activity on our website and app. On iOS devices, we strictly adhere to Apple’s App Tracking Transparency (ATT) framework. We will only track your activity across other companies' apps and websites for advertising purposes if you explicitly grant us permission via the iOS prompt.
4. Third-Party Services
To provide a high-quality service, we partner with several third-party providers. These organisations may have access to certain data to perform tasks on our behalf:
- Google Analytics & Firebase: Used for app stability monitoring and usage analytics.
- Google AdMob: Used to display relevant advertisements within the app.
- AppsFlyer: Used for marketing attribution and to understand how users find PetrolBuddy.
- RevenueCat: Used to manage in-app subscriptions and purchases.
Each of these providers maintains their own privacy policies regarding how they handle data.
5. Data Security
WebDigital takes the security of your data seriously. We implement industry-standard technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information from unauthorised access, loss, or misuse. This includes encryption of data in transit and secure server configurations.
6. Data Retention
We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. If you choose to delete your account, we will remove your personal identifiers from our database, though some anonymised petrol price reports may remain to maintain the historical accuracy of servo pricing for the community.
7. Data Breach Notification
In the unlikely event of a data breach, we comply with the Notifiable Data Breaches (NDB) scheme under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). If a breach occurs that is likely to result in serious harm to you, we will notify you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) as soon as practicable.
8. Your Rights
As an Australian user, you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Request the correction of inaccurate or out-of-date information.
- Request the deletion of your account and associated personal data.
- Opt-out of direct marketing communications.
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at [email protected].
9. International Transfers
While WebDigital is an Australian organisation, some of our third-party service providers (such as Google) may store data on servers located outside of Australia. We take reasonable steps to ensure these providers handle your data in a manner consistent with Australian privacy standards.
10. Children's Privacy
PetrolBuddy is intended for use by individuals who are old enough to hold a driver’s licence or learner’s permit. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. If we become aware that a child has provided us with personal data, we will take immediate steps to delete it.
